Discover Ontario ~ Community of Elmira

Ontario Visited is dedicated to discovering and exploring Ontario Communities, their events and their residents.

Our DISCOVER ONTARIO video series takes visitors along with us as we learn more about the communities and events we experience. Each video and post include an “interesting” fact about the community or event we visited. See if you can guess the right answer!

This week’s video features the Community of Elmira, located in Woolwich Township. Elmira is located just north of the Kitchener-Waterloo area and the region is home to the “largest population of Old Order Mennonites in Canada”.

Over the years, Judi and I have visited Elmira and the area many times. It is a great community to visit and hosts one of the best one-day Maple Syrup Festivals in Ontario. The festival is help annually in early April. It’s an event you should put on your “Spring to Do” list!

When was Elmira first settled?
