The Mabuhay Philippines Festival a free celebration of Filipino culture, food, and talent at Nathan Phillips Square Aug. 22 and 23.

Toronto’s longest-running Filipino festival returns in August with Grammy-winning Black Eyed Peas member Apl.de.Ap set to headline.

The Mabuhay Philippines Festival takes place on Aug. 22 and 23 at Nathan Phillips Square and is free to attend.

Besides Apl.de.Ap, acclaimed Filipino actress Janine Gutierrez is also making an appearance at this year’s festival, which is presented by the Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC).

Organizers state this is the biggest celebration yet, “bringing together internationally recognized performers, award-winning culinary experiences, immersive cultural programming, and some of the country’s most talented Filipino artists and creators for two unforgettable days in the heart of downtown Toronto.”

Among the festival highlights is the return of BB’s Lounge, an expanded culinary and entertainment experience presented by Michelin Guide-recognized restaurant BB’s. There will also be a fashion showcase by internationally renowned Filipino designer Aandrei David, as well as live performances from Filipino musicians, dancers, and cultural groups throughout the weekend.

For generations, the Mabuhay Philippines Festival has brought people together to celebrate Filipino heritage while welcoming everyone to experience our culture,” said Tom Tan, president of the Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC). “This year, we’re proud to present one of our strongest festivals yet, featuring internationally recognized artists, incredible local talent, authentic Filipino cuisine, and cultural experiences that showcase the very best of our community. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Nathan Phillips Square this August.”

Organizers said there will also be an expanded lineup of Filipino food vendors serving regional favourites and beloved classics, adding “whether visitors are reconnecting with their Filipino roots or experiencing the culture for the first time, the Mabuhay Philippines Festival offers something for everyone.”
