‘Embrace the romance of fall’ at Fall n’ Love festival on Main Street Newmarket

Newmarket Public Library, local partners host Oct. 2 to 4 festival with author events, downtown activities

Newmarket Public Library is bringing romance to Main Street this fall with a three-day literary festival celebrating books, local businesses and all things love.

David Di Giovanni said the library wanted to respond to the growing interest in the romance genre while incorporating the romantic atmosphere of Main Street.

“There’s a sense of small-town charm that Main Street has,” said Di Giovanni. “We want to embrace the romance of the fall, which is why we thought the beginning of October was the perfect time to do this.”

Running from Oct. 2 to 4, Fall n’ Love on Main: A Newmarket Romance Festival will coincide with Small Business Month, celebrating downtown cafés, restaurants and boutiques. Di Giovanni said the event will bring more support to the local business economy.

The festival will feature a variety of romance-themed activities, including an open mic night at Old Flame Brewery, 2SLGBTQ+ speed dating at the Postmark Hotel, a love-letter writing workshop, a local romance authors’ book market and signing, author talks and a romantic fall photo shoot with a professional photographer.

The festival will take place alongside the Newmarket ArtWalk, an Ontario Culture Days initiative, and the Newmarket Farmers’ Market. Di Giovanni hopes the events will bring more foot traffic to the area.

“The festival has something for everyone, and we’re hoping to maintain the casual, small-town charm,” he said.

The library has partnered with the historic Postmark Hotel to offer visitors a special discounted room rate when they book their stay using the code “RomanceFest.”

Di Giovanni thanked the festival’s sponsors, including Brain Power Studio and the Newmarket RBC branch, as well as its Main Street partners.

“We’re a one-branch library, and we’re only able to make the impact on the community we can through our partners,” he said.
