Theatre on the Ridge, nestled in the heart of Port Perry, Ontario, is a vibrant professional theatre company known for its commitment to storytelling, community engagement, and fostering Canadian talent. As it gears up for its 2025 Summer Festival, the company continues to build on a rich history that began in 2013.
A Brief History
Founded by Joan Etienne and Carey Nicholson, Theatre on the Ridge (originally Theatre 3×60) launched its inaugural production with Vern Thiessen’s Vimy in Port Perry. By 2014, it had incorporated as a not-for-profit organization, and in 2019, it achieved charitable status. Over the years, the company has introduced innovative programs like the Durham Minifest, youth theatre camps, and heritage cemetery walks. Notably, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it adapted by moving performances outdoors and creating new play workshops, ensuring that theatre remained accessible to the community.
