What You Need to Know

Welcome to the Georgian Trail

Shaped by Ice & Time

Glaciers carved Georgian Bay 12 000 years ago, then dumped sandy till that now cushions your tires. Engineers reused that same aggregate when volunteers converted the rail line in 1989—one of Ontario’s earliest community-led rail-trail projects. Modern upgrades rely on reclaimed rail ties mulched into path shoulder stabiliser and solar beacons at major road crossings; night riders trigger motion sensors that glow just long enough to guide without light-polluting the bay skies.
