Matthew Good and His Band Headline Peterborough Musicfest on Wednesday July 22

PETERBOROUGH, ON — One of Canada’s most influential and enduring songwriters will headline Peterborough Musicfest on Wednesday July 22 as Matthew Good and his band take the Fred Anderson Stage at Del Crary Park. The appearance will mark the first time Matthew Good and his band have played at Peterborough Musicfest.

For more than three decades, Matthew Good has occupied a singular place in Canadian music. First as the frontman of the Matthew Good Band and later as a solo artist, he has built a catalogue that combines soaring melodies, sharp social commentary, and deeply introspective songwriting. From radio staples such as “Hello Timebomb,” “Load Me Up,” “Apparitions,” “Everything Is Automatic,” and “Indestructible” to acclaimed solo releases including Avalanche and Vancouver, Good’s music hasremained both commercially successful and creatively uncompromising.

The Matthew Good Band emerged as one of Canada’s defining alternative rock acts of the late 1990s, earning JUNO Awards for Best Group and Best Rock Album for Beautiful Midnight while selling out venues across the country. Following the band’s dissolution in 2002, Good launched a solo career that further expanded his artistic reach, producing a body of work that has earned 21 JUNO Award nominations and established him as one of Canada’s most respected musical voices.

Throughout his career, Good has never shied away from tackling political, social, and mental health issues through his music. His songs balance vulnerability with conviction, pairing memorable melodies with observations that challenge audiences to look more closely at the world around them.

Before the main stage performance, audiences can catch Graeme Jonez at 6:30 p.m. on the side stage as part of the Future Sound Series presented by Cogeco. Graeme’s appearance is made possible through the support of The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, which helps amplify Indigenous voices and stories through music and the arts.

Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy an evening at Del Crary Park. Food vendors will open at 5:00 p.m., offering a variety of local favourites, while volunteers will be selling tickets for the Peterborough Musicfest 50/50 fundraising raffle draw throughout the evening.

With Matthew Good and his band making their first-ever Peterborough Musicfest appearance, organizers anticipate a large crowd and encourage attendees to arrive early to secure a good vantage point for the evening’s performance. Admission to all Peterborough Musicfest concerts remains free thanks to the support of sponsors, donors, government funders, and community partners.
