Patti Shaughnessy Brings a Collaborative Vision to Crees in the Caribbean

There’s more than one reason audiences are making plans to see Crees in the Caribbean this summer, especially since tickets are selling fast.

Not only has this heartwarming comedy by Drew Hayden Taylor been named one of the Toronto Star’s “10 road trip-worthy theatre shows to see in Ontario this summer,” it’s also being brought to life by acclaimed director Patti Shaughnessy, who recently shared her thoughts on this funny, moving, and deeply human story.

What interests me most are the relationships at the centre of the piece: the humour, tensions, misunderstandings, and moments of connection that emerge as people try to make sense of themselves and each other.” says Shaughnessy.

The play follows Evie and Cecil Poundmaker, a Cree couple celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary with their very first trip abroad. What begins as a dream vacation quickly becomes an unforgettable journey filled with laughter, surprises, and discoveries that challenge how they see themselves and each other.

We can’t wait to share this remarkable story with audiences this season. Filled with humour, heart, and the unmistakable wit of one of Canada’s most celebrated playwrights, Crees in the Caribbean is a theatrical getaway you won’t want to miss.
