Ontario Visited Chats with Clearview Township!

Ever wonder what’s really inside those charming Small Halls scattered throughout Clearview’s rural communities? 🏡

We sat down with Grace from Clearview Township to get the inside “scoop” 🎤—and it’s all about celebrating the heart of these communities!

✨ The Small Halls Festival isn’t just about events (though there’s live music, culinary delights, and theatre too!)—it’s a tribute to the halls themselves and the communities that built around them.

📍 BONUS: Most Small Halls in Clearview Township are only 10–20 minutes apart! So why not make a day (or weekend!) of it?

Explore, discover, and support the incredible local shops, cafés, and businesses along the way.

Grace explains …The awesome thing about this is that you can experience not only the halls but the communities that have incredible businesses and restaurants that you can explore while you’re there. So, while you’re in the area you can support our local scene and enjoy, create new memories for years to come.

📸 Ontario Visited has toured the region ourselves, and trust us—taking your time is the secret to unforgettable experiences.

Interview with Grace - Clearview Small Halls Festival

🛑 So… LET’S GO INSIDE!

Grace shares … “The Big picture and the big piece of holding the Small Halls Festival is the celebration of the halls, which is the whole point of the festival, along with celebrating the communities that have thrived with these halls and their development.

Even though we still have things that happen year after year with events like we have been doing the script readings in Dunedin for years that we continue to bring in live music, those pieces are still always going to continue and celebrating our culinary arts throughout Clearview Township. It’s the halls that are the main reason we’re doing … So, I think it’s really important to celebrate that.”

Grace explains: “Our small halls are absolutely beautiful and…they’ve been the heartbeat of our communities for many, many years. Clearview Township is a very rural municipality. So, these small halls really brought communities together when they weren’t as connected as they are today”

The Community Halls, or “Small Halls” as they are affectionately called, are often referred to as the heart of Clearview Township. In Clearview, we’re proud of our rural agricultural heritage and the Small Halls have been a cornerstone of the rural community for generations. Everything from card games, birthdays and anniversaries to dances, reunions and weddings, Small Halls have been a gathering place for rural communities to socialize and mark important occasions. In Clearview, we’re fortunate to have so many of them providing valuable programs and services to the community. The Small Halls Festival, founded in 2014, was created to celebrate the legacy of the Small Halls. To showcase their uniqueness and the value that they add to the communities throughout our Township. It’s a festival to commemorate and celebrate the rural way of life we continue to enjoy today.

In 2022, the Small Halls Festival transitioned from a single-weekend event to a festival series. There are now events happening between September to November. This allows visitors the opportunity to experience as many halls as possible over several weeks and come back and discover everything Clearview Township has to offer.

The cherished Small Halls have been open for families to enjoy for generations and the Small Halls Festival is no different! Whether it is the “Chicken Races at Duntroon”, Family Bowling Night at Avening Hall or the Hike the Bluffs starting at Singhampton Hall, the Festival has been able to provide free family activities. We are proud to partner with the Creemore Festival of the Arts and showcase local and regional artists each year!
