Two local icons, one unforgettable event with Ted Nolan and Darren Zack
Garden River First Nation honours these community members with a tribute event on December 1
Two of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame inductees are coming home for a special event to honour their contributions to the Garden River community. Join Garden River First Nation for “A Tribute to Ted Nolan and Darren Zack.”
This event is happening on Monday, December 1, from 3:30 to 7:30pm at The Machine Shop, 83 Huron Street, Sault Ste. Marie.
Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame recently inducted both Nolan and Zack. Nolan received the Order of Sport and the Hall of Fame inducted him as a Builder for his work in hockey as a player and coach. He played for the Soo Greyhounds, coached them to a Memorial Cup and also had a prestigious coaching career in the OHL and the NHL.
Zack, Nolan’s cousin, also received the Order of Sport, and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame inducted him as an athlete for his impressive fastball career. Zack won three consecutive Pan Am gold medals playing as a member of Team Canada’s softball team. He was also a three-time ISC (International Softball Congress) champion and is a member of the Softball Canada Hall of Fame.
This tribute hosted by Garden River First Nation is an opportunity for Nolan and Zack to come back to the community where their love of the game first blossomed. Garden River First Nation is incredibly proud of Nolan and Zack’s international accomplishments and honoured to welcome these community members back to honour their impact on the sporting community.
A representative from Garden River First Nation said: “Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of two Garden River community members who grew up honing their skills on the fields and rinks of Garden River First Nation and Sault Ste. Marie.”
The event being held at The Machine Shop will include a dinner, a comedy performance by Don Burnstick, a mocktail social hour, a tribute package for both Nolan and Zack, followed by a question-and-answer session with both honourees.
