10 events to enjoy in Oakville this spring

Events range from Black music festival and vintage car and motorcycle rally to salmon derby and ribfest.

Spring has arrived and local tourism promoter Visit Oakville is raising awareness of 10 events residents can enjoy to make the season extra special.

  • Spring Time on the Farm will take place May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Attendees can enjoy historical demonstrations, farm animals, Victorian games and more at the Spruce Lane Farmhouse and surrounding farm.
  • New Exhibit at Oakville Galleries– Between Heaven and Earth by Ilya & Emilia Kabakov opens May 31-Sept. 20. This team will present two exhibitions at Oakville Galleries and two public sculptures in Gairloch Gardens, 1306 Lakeshore Rd., E. One of these sculptures is known as the Ship of Tolerance, a 60-foot long, handcrafted wooden ship with sails made from local children’s paintings.
  • The 4th Annual Black Music on the Block event is scheduled for June 7 at Downtown Oakville’s Towne Square from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Organizers said this celebration of Black music will return with dynamic performances in the heart of the community.
  • The Mayor’s Historical Picnic is back on June 8 at Lakeside Park, 144 Front St., from noon to 4:30 p.m. Residents are invited to bring a picnic lunch and lawn chair and then enjoy live music, community exhibits, games for all ages, dancing, a balloon artist, face painting, a stilt walker and clowns. This event is presented by the Oakville Historical Society in co-operation with the Town of Oakville.
  • Teagan’s Ride begins June 8 at Chuck’s Road House, 379 Speers Rd., at 10 a.m. The vintage car and motorcycle rally is held in memory of 10-year-old Teagan Walsh who died of osteosarcoma in 2017. Funds raised will benefit the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. For more information or to RSVP contact info@kerr-village.ca.
  • Knot Just a Knit in Public — Fibre artists are invited to bring their needles and creativity to enjoy knitting, sewing, quilting, or crocheting in a fun outdoor setting. This event will take place on June 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bronte Creek Provincial Park.
  • The Annual Veteran’s Salmon Derby will be held June 14 at the Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, 2340 Ontario St., starting at 6 a.m. Residents can recognize the service of Canadian veterans while enjoying a free outdoor adventure on Lake Ontario. After fishing with veterans, attendees can enjoy an afternoon BBQ, fish weigh-in and awards ceremony. Participants are asked to register in advance.
  • Bronte Lake Notes — This free live music series begins June 19 at 7 p.m. and runs every Thursday night at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, 2340 Ontario St. These events feature contemporary music from hot local bands.
  • Oakville Festivals of Film & Art will run from June 18-25. Attendees can enjoy more than 100 films, including shorts, documentaries, and features, along with three gala screenings and VIP events.
  • The Oakville Family Ribfest will return to the Oakville Sheridan College campus parking lot June 19-22. Residents can enjoy a weekend of live entertainment, family activities and above all, ribs.
