Announcing Summer 2025! Theatre on the Ridge
~ There’s something for everyone under the tent next season! ~
Summer 2025 will take you from a field hospital in World War 1 to a vacation gone sideways in the most unexpected way and finish with the fun of a delirious fresh take on Chekov.
It’s where we’ve been, where we may be going and who we are. It’s your stories on our stage!
Two Minutes To Midnight
June 11 – 27
by Michael Ross Albert
Directed by Carey Nicholson
Theatre on the Ridge artistic director, Carey Nicholson returns to the edgy contemporary comedy of Michael Ross Albert, whose satire “The Huns” was presented in the summer of 2020.
In “Two Minutes To Midnight”, Jack and Tracy really need a vacation, but everything at their all-inclusive tropical getaway has been a disappointment. It’s rained the entire trip, their social media influence hasn’t translated to real revenue yet, and an inbound nuclear missile might be about to annihilate them and everyone nearby. With the world– and their relationship– on the brink of collapse, the bickering couple stares down oblivion together, confronting the illusions that kept them together, and finding hope for their future in the chaos of imminent destruction.
Bluebirds
July 9 – 27
by Vern Thiessen
Directed by Iain Moggach
Theatre on the Ridge is excited to welcome Iain Moggach, former artistic director of Theatre by the Bay to his first summer season at Scugog Shores Museum, and excited to return to the compelling work of Vern Thiessen. Iain is no stranger to Port Perry, having directed productions of Salt-Water Moon and Romeo and Juliet at Old Flame Brewery.
“Bluebirds” takes place in Étaples, France, 1918. Nurses Christy, Maggie, and Bab have crossed oceans to care for wounded Canadian soldiers in the Great War. Despite the terrible injuries they must deal with, they manage to stay hopeful as the dangers of the front draw closer to their hospital. As each woman becomes accustomed to her duties and patients, they reveal more personal details to one another and through letters to loved ones. Through it all, the three women find friendship, independence, power, and influence in a place where men, once again, are trying to destroy the world.
