Apex X obstacle course event at Kivi raises $20K
Challenging event drew 350 participants who put their bodies to the test while raising money for Kivi Park’s accessibility initiatives
Three hundred and fifty people converged on Kivi Park on June 21 to test their mettle in an obstacle race while raising funds for the park’s accessibility initiatives.
Rainy weather added to the adventure as the participants tested their endurance in three race distances: seven-kilometres, 3.5-kilometres, and a one-kilometre kids race.
“In its third year, the APEX X race raised an impressive $20,000 to support Kivi Park’s accessibility initiatives, including adaptive equipment purchases and inclusive trail upgrades,” a press release about the event states.
The accessibility efforts at Kivi aim to help more people, regardless of their physical abilities, get out and enjoy the park.
“What makes APEX X so special isn’t just the obstacles — it’s the people,” said Kerry Lamarche, executive director of Kivi Park. “From young kids conquering their first course to seasoned athletes digging through the mud, every participant helped push our mission forward — to make outdoor recreation accessible to everyone.”
This year’s event introduced the “Sudbury’s Fittest Gym” challenge, which saw local fitness teams of four battle it out on the course.
“After a fierce, muddy showdown, Team APEX Warrior was crowned the winner — proving their strength, stamina, and community pride,” the release states. “The winning team included Marc Cayen, James Brice, Ella Cocco, and Patrick Thompson, representing the gym’s commitment to not only training hard but showing up for causes that matter.”
Kivi Park extends its gratitude to APEX Warrior, volunteers, and every participant.
