Culture in Motion: Region of Waterloo Museums and Archives Roll Out New Museum Bike

Waterloo RegionRegion of Waterloo Museums and Archives is excited to announce the launch of its interactive Museum Bike, a community-focused initiative designed to bring the Region’s history and culture out into the community. This mobile museum experience aims to increase inclusive, accessible programming, making it easier than ever for residents of all ages to engage with the Region’s museums and archives.

The colourful tricycle, built in Canada by Icicle Tricycles of Victoria, British Columbia, features original artwork by local multi-disciplinary artist Stephanie Scott. The design incorporates key elements from each of the Region’s museum sites (Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum, McDougall Cottage, Schneider Haus, and Doon Heritage Village), while honouring the traditional lands we share.

Initiatives like this Museum Bike demonstrate the Region’s commitment to meeting our equitable services and opportunities goals,” said Karen Redman, Chair of the Region of Waterloo. “By taking the museum experience outside the walls of our sites, we’re making our history and heritage more accessible, more inclusive, and more connected to the residents we serve.”

The museum bike will appear at festivals and community events throughout the summer months, offering hands-on activities and engagement for residents of all ages. Funded by the FRIENDS of the Region of Waterloo Museums, the bike will serve as a mobile exhibit and outreach tool.

We’re proud to support projects that expand and share the incredible experiences of our museums,” said Kelly Smith, President of the FRIENDS of Waterloo Region Museums. “This museum bike is a great way to introduce new audiences to our museums and spark new interest in our Region’s culture and history.”

The announcement of the museum bike in May coincides with both Museum Month, a time when the Ontario Museums Association celebrates Ontario’s 700+ museums, galleries and heritage sites, and National Bike Month.
