Curtain rises on Vankleek Hill’s new theatre group, seeks fall debut
High and Main Productions (HMP), a new community theatre group in Vankleek Hill, has confirmed its inaugural board of directors and is inviting community members to get involved. HMP and its team are dedicated to fostering artistic excellence, cultural enrichment, and community engagement through the creation of high-quality, inclusive productions.
The group’s first Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Tuesday, June 10, when attendees were informed that HMP was officially registered as a non-profit with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
Members were also elected to numerous board positions, including Madelynn Kiernan as Treasurer; Diane Matichak as Board Administrator; and Dorit Perlin, Ben Tremblay, Cynthia Martin, and Denise Laurie as Directors at Large.
HMP founding Co-chairs Maria-Hélèna Pacelli and Konstantine Malakos emphasized that the group is focused on creating an imaginative and nurturing environment for all.
The organization is committed to inclusivity by welcoming all actors, stage designers, prop technicians, and anyone else who would like to learn and participate in local theatre.
HMP also announced it had secured a partnership with the Creating Centre in Vankleek Hill for hosting meetings and its rehearsal space.
“We’re really grateful to the Creating Centre for partnering with us in this endeavour and for providing the space for our organization to grow,” said the board in a collective statement.
Looking to the future, HMP members stated that there was significant enthusiasm at the AGM and that they are confident the team can offer thought-provoking live theatre to the community.
The group hopes to stage their first production this fall.
