History of the Emsdale Fall Fair

The Emsdale Fall Fair has been a cherished tradition in the village of Emsdale, Ontario, for over a century. Organized by the Emsdale Agricultural Society, which was established in 1889 (originally known as the Perry Township Agricultural Society), the fair was created to promote agriculture, education, and community spirit in the region.

In its early years, the fair focused on showcasing local agricultural achievements, featuring livestock exhibitions, crop displays, home baking, preserves, and handicrafts. These events provided a platform for farmers and residents to share their skills and celebrate the harvest season.

Over time, the Emsdale Fall Fair expanded to include horse shows, baby contests, classic car and truck displays, parades, vendors, entertainment, and various competitions. One unique event is Almaguin’s Next Top Clucker competition, which seeks to find the area’s most extraordinary rooster and chicken.

Today, the Emsdale Fall Fair continues to thrive, blending traditional agricultural roots with modern attractions. It remains a vibrant celebration of rural life, bringing together generations of families and visitors to enjoy the festivities and foster community connections.
