This year in Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma University is honoured to celebrate a special milestone — the 20th Annual Gathering at the Rapids Pow Wow. The anniversary event, led by Makwa Waakaa’igan, the Anishinaabe Initiatives Division, and the Shingwauk Anishinaabe Students’ Association, will take place Saturday, February 14, and Sunday, February 15, 2026, at GFL Memorial Gardens.

This landmark Pow Wow marks two decades of celebrating Anishinaabe culture, education, and community spirit, and is expected to welcome record participation from dancers, drummers, and visitors across the region.

For the first time, Algoma University’s Anishinaabe Initiatives Division (AID) is proud to announce a partnership with the Shingwauk Anishinaabe Students’ Association (SASA), the Indigenous Network, and the City of Brampton to host the 1st Annual City of Brampton & Algoma University Traditional Pow Wow. This vibrant cultural celebration marks an important milestone in strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities and deepening Algoma University’s presence across Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.

This special anniversary Pow Wow is led by Algoma University’s Makwa Waakaa’igan, the Anishinaabe Initiatives Division, and the Shingwauk Anishinaabe Students’ Association.
