Greater Sudbury Gears Up to Host the 2025 Ontario 55+ Summer Games
Excitement is building as Greater Sudbury prepares to host the 2025 Ontario 55+ Summer Games from August 5 to 7, 2025. More than 1,200 participants aged 55 and older from across Ontario will converge on the city to compete in 16 different events over three days.
A kick-off event on May 12, at the Cambrian Athletic Centre marked the beginning of the community’s countdown to the Games. The event brought together municipal and provincial officials, organizers, community partners and members of the public for speeches, photos, interviews and games.
Event Schedule:
- Tuesday, August 5, 2025: Opening ceremony
- Wednesday, August 6, 2025: Day 1 events and Middle Night event
- Thursday, August 7, 2025: Day 2 events and medal ceremonies
The Ontario 55+ Summer Games, first introduced in 1986 as Activefest, have grown into a celebration of active living, showcasing the talents and dedication of older adults. The 2025 Games in Greater Sudbury mark the 20th edition of this biennial event.
The Games are organized in collaboration with the Ontario Senior Games Association (OSGA). All participants must be active members of their regional OSGA and qualify at local or district events before advancing to the provincial Games.
The Ontario 55+ Summer Games are guided by a dedicated Games Organizing Committee (GOC). Comprised of passionate community leaders, municipal staff and volunteers, the committee plays a key role in shaping the Games and creating a welcoming experience for participants and spectators from across Ontario.
Volunteer Opportunities: The success of the Ontario 55+ Summer Games relies heavily on the dedication of volunteers. Over 200 volunteers are expected to contribute to various aspects of the event, from coordination and participant services to transportation and logistics.
