Kitchener brings back big outdoor summer events with WelcomeFest

The City of Kitchener is getting ready to say “welcome back” to summer festivals.

With the days getting longer and the temperature rising, it won’t be long until big outdoor events return to the downtown core.

The city is partnering with K-W Oktoberfest and the Downtown Kitchener BIA to kick it all off in about a month.

WelcomeFest is happening in Carl Zehr Square on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25.

Friday’s festivities begin at 5 p.m. and will feature a free concert, keg tapping, and food. Acts include country singer Alli Walker and local Bavarian favourites The Golden Keys.

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic will also be on hand to announce the full summer lineup of events and festivals set to be held in downtown Kitchener this year.

On Saturday, the fun continues with the Downtown Kitchener BIA’s new Palette x Palate festival, which celebrates local arts and culture.

Both WelcomeFest events are free to attend and open to all ages.
