History of the Laird Fair

The Laird Fair, officially known as the North Shore Agricultural Fair, is a longstanding tradition in Laird Township, Ontario, celebrating the region’s agricultural heritage and community spirit. Established in the late 19th century, the fair has evolved over the years, adapting to the changing times while maintaining its core focus on agriculture.

In 1999, the fairgrounds became home to the Laird International Raceway, adding a new dimension to the fair’s attractions. Founded by Donnie Varcoe Jr., the raceway hosted various motorsport events, enriching the fair’s entertainment offerings. The raceway operated until 2015, experienced a brief closure, and was rebranded in 2018, reverting to its original name in 2019.

The Laird Fair has also served as a venue for notable cultural events. For instance, it hosted a memorable concert where Fleetwood Mac was scheduled to headline, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the band Survivor closed the show instead.

Today, the Laird Fair continues to be a vibrant celebration, featuring livestock exhibitions, homecraft displays, and various entertainment options that reflect the community’s rich agricultural roots and evolving interests.
