Luminato Festival releases jam-packed 2024 lineup

The Luminato festival has unveiled some of its programming for its highly anticipated annual arts festival happening in Toronto this summer.

The event will return for 12 days, from June 5-16, with a packed schedule of music, dance, performance art, theatre and interactive experiences.

The line-up will feature a curated selection of Canadian and international artists setting the city alight with their eye-catching creations.

From parks to sidewalks, theatres, galleries and major transit locations, this year’s festival will be present in different neighbourhoods across the city.

Hon. Neil Lumsden, minister of tourism, culture, and sport, said the Luminato festivalcontinues to showcase the significant impact that festivals and events can have in communities across Ontario…fostering a dynamic arts and culture environment that also provides a welcomed boost to local businesses.

This year, the festival will host the Canadian premiere of Geoff Sobelle’s interactive theatrical work, HOME.

The piece constructs a house from nothing in front of audiences, employing the magic of theatre to transform the bare bones of a house into a home, tickets start at $39.

U.K. artist Sonia Hughes will work over a seven-hour period as she constructs and dismantles a steel-and-lumber structure in different locations each day. Her outdoor interactive piece, I Am from Reykjavik, depicts the experience of newcomers searching for home.

The festival will also take over David Pecaut Square for Luminato in the Square. The free hub will host concerts, performances, activities, food, and markets for its entire 12-day duration.

The full lineup of Luminato in the Square will be available on May 7.

Other fee events include Ipásskaa by Terrance Houle, SPACED curated by Banded Purple,

Evanescent by Atelier Sisu, and R.A.V.E., created, co-directed and performed by Me Time, co-devised and co-directed by !Kona.

Luminato’s Conversation Series will feature talks with Thelma Golden, director and chief curator of The Studio museum in Harlem; Julie Crooks, curator at the AGO; Justine Abigail Yu of Living Hyphen; and Shannon Cochrane, artistic director of FADO Performance Art.

The festival also offers a range of paid ticketed events and performances for visitors of all ages.
