My Mother’s Tongue is a group exhibition that references the recurrent, global history of aggressors silencing the history, language, and art of the enslaved. It will explore how one navigates loss, disconnection, anger, and pain when your mother tongue has been silenced, and will offer a space for reclaiming these voices and letting them rise. Curated by AGM’s TD Programming Curator, Musha Neluheni, this exhibition draws on her extensive knowledge of Indigenous South African cultural groups. Neluheni has 16 years of curatorial experience and was the former Curator: Contemporary Collections of the Johannesburg Art Gallery. The exhibition is international in scope, and includes artists from many cultures, including South Korea, South Africa, and Indigenous People in Canada.
