Ontarians plan summer vacations at home as province expects record-setting tourism year

From Toronto’s bustling waterfront, to the rugged landscapes of Algonquin Park, and from small-town charm in Prince Edward County to the stunning views of the Niagara Escarpment, Ontario is bracing for a potentially record-setting summer for tourism.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming Stan Cho says Ontarians are showing a strong preference for local travel this year, and new numbers back that up.

Cho tells us results from a recent survey have shown some interesting trends.

He says the trend reflects more than just a desire to stay close to home, it’s also a growing appreciation for what Ontario has to offer.

Cho says his ministry has launched a new ad campaign to help Ontarians make the most of the summer.

According to Cho, the ads showcase the province’s rich mosaic of cuisine and cultures and our amazing history.

To support the surge in interest, the tourism ad campaign “We Stand” promotes Ontario’s destinations while encouraging Canadians to explore their own backyards. Cho adds that the campaign also aims to welcome American visitors despite trade tensions.

The We Stand campaign highlights Ontario’s diverse food, culture, and landscapes and is part of the government’s broader effort to support local economies and celebrate Ontario pride.
