Ontario launches summer travel campaign to boost local tourism industry
As the summer season approaches, the Ontario government has launched a new campaign encouraging residents to explore the province’s travel, food, and arts destinations.
The “We Stand” campaign, unveiled by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, highlights scenic locations across Ontario, from Pelee Island to the Lake of the Woods, while featuring local culinary artists, musicians, farmers, and winemakers.
The initiative comes amid broader economic uncertainty and ongoing U.S. tariffs, which officials say are prompting more Ontarians to consider vacationing closer to home.
Tourism Minister Stan Cho said the campaign aims to boost domestic travel and support local businesses and communities. “Now more than ever, it is vital that we stand together to support our local communities and celebrate the people and experiences that make Ontario the best place in the world to live, work and visit,” Cho said in a statement.
Ontario’s tourism sector plays a significant role in the provincial economy, contributing $32 billion annually and supporting more than 325,000 jobs and 92,000 businesses. This year, the province is investing nearly $200 million in the sector, including funding for over 350 festivals and events, and grants for regional tourism organizations and attractions.
