Opening Ceremonies Kick Off Sudbury 2025 Ontario 55+ Summer Games with Spirit

The Grace Hartman Amphitheatre was filled with spirit and sportsmanship last night as the Opening Ceremonies officially launched the 2025 Ontario 55+ Summer Games, hosted by the City of Greater Sudbury.

More than 800 participants aged 55 and older gathered to celebrate the start of this week’s sporting events. They were joined by volunteers, family members and volunteers, all there to recognize the achievements of athletes who continue to prove that age does not define ability.

The evening featured a parade of athletes from across the province, live performances, the lighting of the Games cauldron and remarks from dignitaries.

With events taking place at venues across the city, participants and supporters can look forward to a week filled with friendly competition, community spirit and celebration. Hundreds of local volunteers are helping bring the Games to life, while businesses across Greater Sudbury are offering special promotions to welcome visiting athletes and guests.

Events begin today and wrap up tomorrow afternoon. Residents are encouraged to attend and show their support for active living and local spirit. Sports include pickleball, golf, euchre, bocce and prediction walking. Medal ceremonies will take place following the completion of each sport.
