Outdoor Movie Nights are back at Celebration Square in Mississauga
A wild robot, a superhero who takes the form of a dog-human hybrid, some despicable animated creatures and, of course, something to do with the video game/media franchise Minecraft are just a few things that will appear on the big screen this summer at Celebration Square in Mississauga’s downtown core.
The wildly popular Celebration Square Movie Nights, again presented by INsauga.com, return to the huge outdoor space on summertime Thursday evenings starting June 19 with a showing of The Wild Robot (see full movie listings below).
Weekly film screenings continue throughout the summer until Sept. 4 with exceptions of July 3, July 10 and July 24 due to other events taking place on the square, City of Mississauga officials said in an online event update.
Organizers urge residents to forget the traditional indoor movie theatre for a while — at least one night a week — and instead grab a blanket and watch some popular films under the stars in the heart of Mississauga’s City Centre.
What city officials describe as the largest outdoor movie screenings in Mississauga are open to all ages, admission is free and the venue is accessible. The films run from about 8-10 p.m., with a pre-show starting at 7:30 p.m.
“Families can enjoy their favourite movies, from action-packed adventures to animated classics, all under the stars,” city officials said. “Movie Nights also offer an interactive pre-show featuring special giveaways, courtesy of Square One.”
In past years, the event has drawn thousands of people to the square each Thursday evening. They set up their lawn chairs, lay out their blankets and bring out the snacks to watch a movie on a clear night, organizers said previously.
Here’s the 2025 lineup:
Thursday, June 19 — The Wild Robot
June 26 — Sonic the Hedgehog 3
July 17 — Orion and the Dark
July 31 — Wicked: Part One
Aug. 7 — Dog Man
Aug. 14 — Despicable Me 4
Aug. 21 — IF
Aug. 28 — A Minecraft Movie
Sept. 4 — Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
For those who need specific accommodations, call 311 at least 48 hours in advance of the event to make the request, city officials say.
