“A Moment in Time!”
The history of the Algoma Region can be found at the Sault Ste Marie Museum.
We were here in Sault Ste Marie and visiting as many attractions as possible, including the Sault Ste Marie Museum!
One of our stops was the Sault Ste Marie Museum.
The Museum is located in the old downtown Canada Post building.
In 1904, the building welcomed its first occupant, Canada Post.
Original cost, $20,000!
The Museum started its occupancy in 1983.
The museum preserves the history of Sault Ste Marie and the region.
The Soo has a long rich history and the museum tells its story.
It’s a border city, located adjacent to the rapids of the St Marys River between lakes Superior and Huron.
The Sault Ste Marie Canal allows ships to travel between the two lakes.
The Museum is full of interesting artifacts from the area.
As we walked through the Museum, we imagined the diverseness of the area and what it offered to both visitors and residents.
The Museum collection is very eclectic…
from sport’s memorabilia (lots of hockey hall of fame inductees come from the “Soo“)…
… to Canal history (the Sault Ste Marie Canal National Historic Site)…
… to so much more! You need to visit the Museum to appreciate all it has to offer!
