Our Summer 2025 line up!
June 11 – 27 – Two Minutes To Midnight
by Michael Ross Albert
Directed by Carey Nicholson
Theatre on the Ridge artistic director, Carey Nicholson returns to the edgy contemporary comedy of Michael Ross Albert, whose satire “The Huns” was presented in the summer of 2020.
In “Two Minutes To Midnight”, Jack and Tracy really need a vacation, but everything at their all-inclusive tropical getaway has been a disappointment. It’s rained the entire trip, their social media influence hasn’t translated to real revenue yet, and an inbound nuclear missile might be about to annihilate them and everyone nearby. With the world– and their relationship– on the brink of collapse, the bickering couple stares down oblivion together, confronting the illusions that kept them together, and finding hope for their future in the chaos of imminent destruction.
July 9 – 27 – Bluebirds
by Vern Thiessen
Directed by Iain Moggach
Theatre on the Ridge is excited to welcome Iain Moggach, former artistic director of Theatre by the Bay to his first summer season at Scugog Shores Museum, and excited to return to the compelling work of Vern Thiessen. Iain is no stranger to Port Perry, having directed productions of Salt-Water Moon and Romeo and Juliet at Old Flame Brewery.
“Bluebirds” takes place in Étaples, France, 1918. Nurses Christy, Maggie, and Bab have crossed oceans to care for wounded Canadian soldiers in the Great War. Despite the terrible injuries they must deal with, they manage to stay hopeful as the dangers of the front draw closer to their hospital.
As each woman becomes accustomed to her duties and patients, they reveal more personal details to one another and through letters to loved ones. Through it all, the three women find friendship, independence, power, and influence in a place where men, once again, are trying to destroy the world.
August 6 – 24 – Any Idiot Can Face A Crisis: The Comedy of Anton Chekhov
Based on original Chekov short plays, adapted by Andy Massingham and the Company
Directed by Andy Massingham
Our final show of the season sees the return of director Andy Massingham for his 4th season, with a new adapted work created for the company. Andy is the master of physical theatre and clown, and his madcap style is becoming a Theatre on the Ridge favourite. This year Andy adapts the classic short stories and plays of Anton Chekhov for the dynamic Theatre on the Ridge performance tent. It’s Chekhov turned upside down and given the signature touch of inventive, physical, comedic mayhem that only Andy Massingham can deliver.
