Six WODL awards for Kincardine Theatre Guild’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance’

The Kincardine Theatre Guild (KTG) is once again celebrating an award-winning production with “The Pirates of Penzance” receiving six Western Ontario Drama League (WODL) awards out of 11 nominations.

Presented at a gala in Leamington on May 18, the awards were announced by the KTG in a social media post referring to the production as “a swashbuckling success.”

Holly McAdam won for Best Costumes, Alex Peroff for Outstanding Performance, Clayton Peters for Best Musical Direction, and Savannah Deluca, Isabelle Geberdt, Paige Wade, and Emily Cassidy won Best Comedy Timing in a Duo, Trio or Quartet for their performance as the daughters. The production was also awarded in the Scene Transitions and Outstanding Ensemble categories.

Covering an area from Burlington west to Sarnia and Welland and north to Tobermory, the WODL was created in 1932 to unite community theatre groups in Western Ontario.

Last year, the KTG’s production of Beauty and the Beast was nominated for five WODL awards and won two.

Established in 1982, the KTG is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit community group. Its productions are held at the Kincardine Centre for the Arts, located at 707 Queen St.

The group is currently seeking actors aged 16 and up for its upcoming production, “Into the Woods,” which intertwines the stories of several fairy tale characters, including Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and his beanstalk, Cinderella, and Rapunzel.

Auditions take place June 7 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., June 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and June 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Actors are asked to dress comfortably and arrive 15 to 20 minutes early to complete registration. Script excerpts will be provided at the door and an audition song taught on site.
