Sudbury’s Yes Theatre unveils 2025 lineup

Sudbury’s Yes Theatre announced its full list of productions for the 2025 season on Tuesday.

Alessandro Costantini, YES Theatre artistic and managing director, said a lot of thought went into picking the shows for the upcoming year.

“We’ve been focusing on just really good theatre, things that I think are really compelling, really exciting, really moving,” Costantini said.

Relevant to the community, and also large-scale pieces that give us an opportunity to engage as many people as we possibly can, because we have such a rich community of artists here.”

Opening the year Feb. 14 will be ‘Groundhog Day: The Musical,’ based on the 1993 movie featuring Bill Murray.

Featuring the same writers as Yes Theatre’s 2023 production, ‘Matilda, the Musical‘ will be making its Canadian debut in Sudbury.

Actor Sidney Cassidy will be a part of the ensemble in the musical.

I like the movie and I always love when we can bring something that’s new to Canada,” Cassidy said.

This is going to be the Canadian premiere of the piece, which is really exciting.”

Additionally, ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ ‘Choir,‘Casey and Diana,’ and ‘Annie‘ will run at the Sudbury Theatre Centre.

In the summer, performances of ‘Never Break The Chain: The Music of Fleetwood Mac,’ and Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ will be held at the Refettorio.

Actor Maryn Tarini has been a part of YES Theatre for almost a decade.

It’s such a special family to be a part of,” Tarini said.

As this season launches, it’s just so exciting to see where you fit or who else might fit into certain shows, and it’s just so lovely to be in this space with these people all the time.”

YES Theatre began managing STC two years ago. Since then, he said there have been 19 mainstage productions, 80,000 patrons and 466 opportunities for artists.

It just feels like we’re really beginning to expand into that identity as a pillar of the community,” said Costantini.

Additionally, ticket sales are estimated at $2.8 million. More than 600 Believers’ Passes were sold for 2025, compared to less than 500 the year before.

It’s been quite a whirlwind to look back on these two years of work and it feels really overwhelming at times, but also awesome,” Costantini said.

And it’s very clear that the community really loves us and is supporting the work.”

Seasons passes are on sale now and can be purchased online or at the box office.

The Broadway classic ‘Oliver‘ will close out 2024, and begins Nov. 22.
