Agricultural Excellence at Its Core

Agriculture remains at the heart of the Woodstock Fair, offering a full slate of livestock shows and barnyard experiences:

  • The Cattle Shows bring together top breeders and 4-H participants, proudly presenting their finest dairy and beef animals.
  • Don’t miss the charming and educational Llama and Goat Shows, where visitors can meet these friendly creatures and learn about their care and importance on the farm.
  • Horse Shows round out the lineup with both elegance and excitement, showcasing skilled riders and their equine partners in a variety of classes.

Families will love visiting Old MacDonald’s Barn, a hands-on experience where kids can meet cows, chickens, pigs, and more. Nearby, the Petting Zoo offers even more opportunities for children to interact with gentle animals in a safe, fun environment.

History of the Woodstock Fair

The Woodstock Fair, held annually in Woodstock, Ontario, has a rich history dating back to 1836. Established less than fifty years after Ontario’s first Fall Fair in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Woodstock Agricultural Society organized the inaugural event to promote agricultural practices and foster community spirit.

Throughout its history, the Woodstock Fair has showcased livestock exhibitions, crop displays, and homecraft competitions, reflecting the region’s agricultural roots. Over time, the fair has expanded to include diverse attractions such as animal shows, magic performances, lumberjack demonstrations, chainsaw carving, horse shows, cattle competitions, horticultural exhibits, antiques, baking contests, crafts, photography exhibits, youth activities, scavenger hunts, food trucks, and entertainment options like bouncy castles.

The fairgrounds have also played significant roles beyond the annual fair. During World War II, from 1940 to 1946, the Department of National Defence utilized the site as the No. 11 Militia Training Centre, where over 28,000 men and women received training.

Today, the Woodstock Fair continues to be a vibrant celebration, blending traditional agricultural exhibits with modern entertainment, reflecting the evolving interests of the community while honoring its rich heritage.
