YES Theatre’s latest summer concert is ‘not your average tribute show’
After the success of the last two years with ‘Forever and Always’ and ‘Here Comes the Sun,’ Sudbury’s YES Theatre is back with another outdoor summer concert.
In Never Break the Chain: The Music of Fleetwood Mac, local musician Barry Miles has reorchestrated a selection of the iconic rock band’s best songs.
Not your average tribute show
“It is not your average tribute show because we are a theatre company. This is a theatrical exploration of the music,” said director and YES Theatre’s artistic and managing director Alessandro Costantini.
“People who love and know Fleetwood Mac music are gonna love it. It is a sort of immersive experience. The performers go all around the space. We have a live four-piece band. It is one hour of exciting, high energy, wonderful, fun in the sun, it’s really awesome.”
He describes the show as a theatrical exploration of the band’s repertoire.
Beautiful architecture, dreamy ambience
The live musical show is held in The Refettorio, an outdoor theatre space downtown on Durham Street across from the YMCA.
“(It) is an incredible space to experience live. It kind of puts the work like right on your lap,” Costantini said.
“As you can see, it’s super beautiful, architecturally, very dreamy, and we’ve been having a great time. Audience has been loving it, and it’s selling out.”
Because it is an outdoor venue, if the weather is bad, the audience is notified two hours before the show and rebooked for another time that works for them.
“It’s super easy. No Fear. Come on out here,” he said.
“And we also have amazing Gelato and drinks.”
The one-hour show is running twice a night — at 6 and 8:30 p.m. — for another three weeks until July 12.
For the musical theatre lovers
YES Theatre is currently in production for the smash-hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar, which opens July 8 at Sudbury Theatre Centre on Shaughnessy Street.
“Later in the summer, we’re going to have Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Costantini said.
“There’s a whole bunch of amazing things happening for you to take in.”
